Discord Account Safety

On average, we ban at least ten to fifteen compromised accounts every single day. Your account is important. Keep it safe with these tips. Don't fall for easy scams, and be on the lookout. They're more common than you think. Not keeping your account safe not only puts your information at risk, but others as well.

Someone DMed me / posted on the server that I won Nitro and it looks real!

Discord Nitro claims have special embeds where the option to claim Nitro is part of the embed itself, and NOT a button below an image. When you click / tap on the embed, you are redirected to the Nitro tab within your User Settings. On Desktop, you will notice when you hover over the embed that it reacts to your mouse movement, and the embed will also change size depending on your Discord window size.

I joined a server where they ask us to verify using a QR code!

NEVER scan a QR code that claims to be account verification (or really anything) when you yourself did not generate it! If you have been sent a QR code by someone else and it opens the Discord login screen, close it right away. Scammers use this to steal your account token to access your Discord account without your credentials or 2FA.

Someone sent a QR code in chat and is asking people to use it!

Advertisements are against our rules, but as said above, NEVER scan a QR code sent by someone else. Please report these incidents to a @Moderator asap so we can deal with it.

Someone posted a link that looks real, but it says it leads somewhere else!

Masked hyperlinks can hide scam links. Always be on the lookout for what it actually leads to. NEVER go to any link that does not lead exactly where it says it does, character-by-character. A example is below. Hover over each and see for yourself. (There is also a SLIGHT character different on the 'fake' link)

I was randomly invited to a server in my DM!

Don't join random servers, especially those advertised in DM. Report any advertisements in DM to a @Moderator and include a screenshot.

I'm pretty sure I was sent a scam link! (on server or in DM)

If you provided any user info whatsoever, immediately change your password and enable 2FA.
  • On Server
Right click the message, click "Report Message" and select the appropriate category. Contact a @Moderator immediately to report the scam to the server staff. We can remove them from the server.
  • In DM
Click "Report Spam" and block the server. Contact a @Moderator immediately to report the scam to the server staff. We can remove them from the server.

Someone is claiming to work for Discord or Steam / Valve / AEO Staff in my DM!

  • AEO Staff will never contact you through DMs to ask for private account information. The only information we would ever ask for is for a username, or link to a steam account to manage bans.
  • Discord employees will never contact you through DMs or ask for account information. Discord only reaches out through the System account seen below: Discord System Message The chat bar will have this at the bottom: Discord System Channel
  • Steam / Valve employees will never contact you through Discord.
